The DeviantArt Timeline entries from the past few months have discussed how we’re focusing on user experience for DeviantArt and ways to make the site more intuitive. In this journal, we'd like to kick off a discussion on another big design-related milestone: to improve the profile experience on the site, mobile web, and mobile apps.

DeviantArt.com will celebrate its 15th birthday in August 2015. While many online communities have come and gone during the last decade and a half, DeviantArt remains because of our passionate and committed community. In that time, we've celebrated many milestones, and it became apparent we were in need of a place to share our victories and our challenges. And since we want to move toward more complete transparency with the community, what better time to also showcase

The DeviantArt Mobile App: What's to Come
With the newly introduced DeviantArt Mobile App for Android and iOS, our goal was to bring you a better, fresher, yet familiar DeviantArt experience — providing more power to do what you want and, more importantly, create deeper connections between your friends and favorite artists. We have plenty of plans for the future — including Notes and Push Notifications, which didn’t make it into the first version — and we want to hear what you’d like to see next to help shape the future of the app.

Bipolar Disorder Basics
Bipolar disorder used to be known as manic depressive illness.
It is a mood disorder characterized by mood swings between the "highs" of bipolar mania and the "lows" of depression.
It is an episodic illness. In between episodes of bipolar mania and/or depression, there will usually be periods of stable or normal moods and wellness.
The usual age of onset is late teens to early twenties.
Bipolar disorder is not curable and must be controlled by mood stabilizing medication.
Despite being a life long illness, bipolar disorder is very manageable. In fact, it is one of the "best" mental illnesses to have in that there
I remember when 'The Internet' was a new, exciting consumer experience. It was a very foreign idea, one that needed explaining and tutorials and sadly, cheesy videos like in the below clip. It came on a disk with a very specific, obnoxious soundtrack and a very extended waiting period. I still know people (particularly of the older generation) who do not know what a browser is, and who do not know that opening a browser is not synonymous with starting up the internet. Growing up with a mobile phone would have been a bizarre enough idea, let alone having the internet in my pocket.
This is why, with the benefit of far too many years on the int
I am refusing to use the rebranded name because, I'm annoyed about the rebrand. I'm annoyed about your direction, your lack of focus in key areas and your lack of communication. I said I'd never be a bitter former staff member, but it seems that I am.
Last year you spent a lot of money on a rebrand, this year you've cut 50% of your work force, entire departments have been decimated and peoples lives have been thrown upside down without notice. But you never really communicated to anyone why. You still don't, you're not telling the community what's happening and that's only going to hurt you. People will see that helpdesk tickets take longer

The Key to keeping yourself motivated properly. by Suzanne-Helmigh, journal
The Key to keeping yourself motivated properly.
Let me start off with telling you what motivation is and why you need it.
A motivation is a reason behind doing something a certain way to work yourself up to a certain goal. Just having a goal but no understanding of how to get there, means you have no way to motivate yourself and your goal will be hard to reach.
Therefore motivation is needed desperately in order to become truly good at something.
The motivation to eat is the feeling for hunger and the end goal of ending the hunger and feeling healthy and energized. This type of motivation is a feeling.
Which brings me to: Intrinsic motivation and Extrinsic motivation.

Elf, A 3D Tutorial using Poser, Vue, and Gimp

In this video, I show you how I create a fantasy scene depicting an elf standing with a deer in a dense forest. Starting with Poser, I pose the V4 model and use the cloth room to do a couple of cloth simulations for her dress, then, also in poser, I add the deer. I'll show you how to transfer poser characters to Vue. Then, in Vue, I construct a forest scene around the Poser Models. Finally, towards the end, I show you how to use GIMP to do a bit of post production work.
